We do weddings too

But not ordinary weddings. Oh no.

Santa Pod Mini in the Park

There are no typos in the headline. We really did spend the weekend at an event called Mini in the Park held at the Santa Pod race track. Essentially a lot of people who love minis turn up and talk about minis, race minis and buy mini bits (by which we mean bits for minis rather than very small bits though many bits for minis are very small). Anyway they get hungry and need feeding, which is where we come in.

A surprising (to us) number of mini fanatics are american. They really know about barbecue and hot dogs which is why they headed for our stand. We did not disappoint them.

We love it when we get a satisfied customer but there’s something extra special about a satisfied customer from the USA.

Mini in the park is a regular thing and the race track really is called Santa Pod.

Regnat Populus

Warwick Folk Festival is a chilled place to spend a few days. We even got to see a show or two. Belly dancers made us their regular stopping off place (this job can be pretty tough sometimes). It was also remarkably child friendly thanks to Panic Circus.

Now you will be aware that we are quite proud of our secret recipe barbecue sauce, the quality of the meat we use and the amazing taste we imbue our food through long slow cooking in the ironhorse. So not for nothing did we gratefully thank the customer who greeted our BBQ with this:

“Oh my god these are just like the ones I usually have at home in Arkansas”

Thank you so much anonymous Arkansawyer.

More photos (as you might expect) over on our facebook page.

Our favourite photo ever

Thanks to Susannah for sending this through (it is, of course, our food that they are enjoying) and also saying the following very nice things.

“We wanted to meet Kevin before our wedding day to sort of ‘check him out’ before the event. Well, I’m really glad we did as he offered us some fantastic tasters; the home made sauce is to die for! During planning Kevin was responsive and flexible; on the day he was a star, a brilliant host. His staff were excellent, the food was incredible, everyone loved it adults and children alike. I would highly recommend Kevin and The Ironbridge Catering Company to everyone“.

An alternative Hog

As you know we provide the sophisticated alternative to a Hog Roast with or massive Ironhorse smoker. So we felt a certain affinity with this Harley Davidson or “hog” which was part of the huge array of Americana that we spent the weekend as part of.

We fitted right in.

Shrewsbury in the summer sun

The finish line at the Dragon BoatsThis was our view yesterday looking across the River Severn in Shrewsbury. It was the 6th year of the Severn Hospice Dragon Boat Festival. We fired up the Ironhorse next to Pengwern Boat House and fed the hoards of participants, supporters and spectators.

We were overlooking the finish line so we got an excellent view of the insanity. We took a few more photos, some of which are quite good if you squint a little and only glance at them. They are on on our facebook page.

Web face off… or something

So we’ve been mucking around with this wordpress version of the Ironbridge Catering Company website which takes the content from our existing site but displays it in a lovely tidy format. There has not been universal support for this project from within the company (Kevin built the original site and he’s rather fond of it). So we’re asking people to compare the two and let us know which they prefer.

The current site is here. You’re looking at the possible new site and you can leave comments here or over on our facebook page facebook.com/ironbridgecatering.

Thanks in advance.

An unexpected bonus

We had a great weekend at the Oswestry Antiques fair. Hi to everybody who enjoyed our BBQ smoker cooked food.

The BBC were filming “Bargain Hunt” there. The most junior members of the Catering Team (Kevin’s kids) found a trinket box on the ground. Main presenter Tim Wonnacott treated them to a valuation which was a great bonus.

And then they were also asked to present the rules to new viewers. You’ll be able to see how they got on when the episode is shown in October.

Gourmet catering, treasure hunting and TV stardom all wrapped up in one convenient package.

There are more photos from the day on our facebook page.

A Shropshire wedding

Is Shropshire a hotbed of especially lovely wedding ideas or do especially cool brides and grooms ask us to cater for them? Or maybe it’s just the way everyone celebrates these days: get hitched in Shrewsbury, cycle south into the beautiful south shropshire hills where you have taken over a campsite for the reception.

It was really great.
